Hello Everyone!
I’m Demitric, and I was a graduate intern hall director for Burnap Hall at Eastern Connecticut State University (ECSU). In July 2025, I was sexually assaulted and chemically coerced (influenced or forced to drink substances). I reported this to Sara Judge, the Title IX Coordinator at ECSU, and faced what I believe is retaliation.
As a result, I decided to start BaEZelevates Justice For Title IX Survivors – a consulting and advocacy organization that dives deep into Title IX-related issues and trauma-informed practices. Title IX is a law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex (including sexual assault and interpersonal violence) at educational institutions across the United States of America.
Trauma-informed practices are important now more than ever, especially since we are still in the acute (short-term) post-COVID era. I notice that there is a lack of trauma-informed care across the board with organizations, and it is so important that we implement it in higher education institutions. There is a higher prevalence of mental health issues, from anxiety, to depression, to Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), in college students than there was just a short 10 years ago.
I hope that together, we can cultivate a culture where educational institutions “sidestep their litigious fears,” as I put it in an ethics case study paper I turned in that analyzed my experience. It is time we unite against indifference and hold ourselves and others accountable for systemic injustices.
